Well, Flowcharts, as its name says, describes the end to end flow of a particular activity. It is one among the many types of pictorial diagrams that represent an algorithm, workflow that show the process flow with the help of boxes of various kinds, placed in an order and connected with arrows.
This diagrammatic representation provides a solution model to a given activity that would be faster and smoother.
The purpose of  flowcharts is to effectively communicate how a process works or should work. They are visually stimulating hence, grabs quicker attention and provides a better understanding.
Understanding Key areas,Basic flows, alternate flows and ends will be quick and clear. Hence, provides efficiency and avoids wastage of time.

From business analysis point of view, flowchart helps in "visual representation of the sequential flow and control logic of an application or software. Flowcharts are a non-UML process modeling tool often employed by business analysts.

Flowcharts have several important benefits, including:

* Graphical format makes them easy to read and understand, even by non-technical team members.
* Allows for a team to document current processes as well as future processes.
* Can be created at varying levels of detail depending on the project phase and purpose
* Can be leveraged for other analysis techniques, such as use cases
* Allows a team to identify potential problem areas where a process is known to break and therefore may lead to process and system
   improvements
* Can serve as a valuable training and communication tool
*Can show parallel processes by function (i.e. swim lanes)
*Can be easier for novice analysts to implement in comparison with the more rigorous UML format

A Flowchart is a diagram that graphically represents the structure of the system, the process flow, algorithm, or the sequence of steps and decisions to be made. For easy depiction various symbols are used (specific shapes and graphic symbols) which are linked by lines and directional arrows. The most commonly known shapes are rectangle or box, rounded box, diamond, circle.
Flowchart is a convenient way to observe the follow the process from beginning to end, it lets improve the work of process, highlight the key elements and detach not essential or even excessive steps. The Flowcharts can represent different levels of detail: High-Level Flowchart, Detailed Flowchart, and Deployment or Matrix Flowchart. They are incredibly useful for programmers when developing the programs of any complexity and on any high level language.

Hi,
One of the first things to ask when making a flowchart is, "what is its purpose?" The answer to this question will help you create the type of flowchart that best suits your needs.

Some of the common uses of flowcharts include:
•   Planning a new project
•   Documenting a process
•   Modeling a business process
•   Managing workflow
•   Auditing a process
•   Mapping computer algorithms
•   Data management

Few importance of flow charts for organisation:

Workflow Management and Continuous Improvement

Workflows don't manage themselves. To ensure that you are meeting your customers' needs, you need to take control of your business processes. The first step to workflow management is to define the current state of your processes by creating an "As-Is Flowchart". That allows you to analyze your processes for waste and inefficiency. After you have identified areas for process improvement, you can then craft new flowcharts to document the leaner processes.

Programming

Information technology played a big influence on the use and spread of flowcharts in the 20th century. While Dr. W. Edwards Deming was advocating their use in quality management, professionals in the data processing world were using them to flesh out their programming logic. Flowcharts were a mainstay of procedural programming, however, and with the advent of object oriented programming and various modeling tools, the use of flowcharts for programming is no longer as commonplace as it once was.

That said, even with in the scope of object oriented programming, complex program logic can be modeled effectively using a flowchart. Moreover, diagramming the user's experience as they navigate through a program is a valuable prerequisite prior to designing the user interface. So flowcharts still have their place in the world of programming.

Troubleshooting Guides

Most of us have come across a troubleshooting flowchart at one time or another. These are usually in the form of Decision Trees that progressively narrow the range of possible solutions based on a series of criteria. The effectiveness of these types of flowcharts depends on how neatly the range of problems and solutions can fit into a simple True/False diagnosis model. A well done troubleshooting flowcharts can cut the problem solving time greatly.

Regulatory and Quality Management Requirements

Your business processes may be subject to regulatory requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), which requires that your accounting procedures be clearly defined and documented. An easy way to do this is to create accounting flowcharts for all your accounting processes.

•   Proper Debugging: The flowchart helps in debugging process.
•   Efficient Program Maintenance: The maintenance of operating program becomes easy with the help of flowchart. It helps the programmer to put efforts more efficiently on that part

Disadvantages Of Using FLOWCHARTS:
•   Complex logic: Sometimes, the program logic is quite complicated. In that case, flowchart becomes complex and clumsy. This will become a pain for the user, resulting in a waste of time and money trying to correct the problem
•   Alterations and Modifications: If alterations are required the flowchart may require re-drawing completely. This will usually waste valuable time.
•   Reproduction: As the flowchart symbols cannot be typed, reproduction of flowchart becomes a problem.

Flow chart plays a vital role for the success of the project. The flow chart can be basically defined as the pictorial representation of activities going to take place in the proposed solution from starting till end. Flow chart comprises of flow of activities with decisions to be taken by the user. The Flow chart makes easy to understand the different events going to take place step by step for every individual involved in the project. The flow chart can be shown to client and it provides better understanding for the project.

Flowchart
A flowchart is a graphically representation of the structure of process or the step-by-step solution of the problem.
The Flowchart describes the data flow through an information processing systems.
A Flowchart helps to known wither the work of the process can be improved, allows to find the important  elements of the process and remove steps that are not necessary.
The Flowcharts can have the different levels of detail. The following types that have their strengths and weaknesses:
•   High-Level Flowchart displays the entire system, the most important activities of the process. It also identifies the changes that take place in the process. It is a simple flowchart to construct.
•   Detailed Flowchart represents all the steps, activities that take place in the process. It is a detailed picture of the process that allows to define the problems and the areas of ineffectiveness that must be reworked and improved.
•   Deployment or Matrix Flowchart is a flowchart in the form of a matrix that shows the participants of the process and the flows of steps between them.
         Some main standard symbols are:
•   Rectangle or box is used for representing the activity inside a process.
•   Rounded box is used for representing the event that occurs automatically and causes the next action.
•   Diamond is used for representing the decision point
•   Circle is used for representing the point at which the flowchart connects with another process.
•   Flow lines are used to show the progression or transition from one step to another.
Importance
The Flowcharts are very useful for the programmers, it helps to write the programs of any complexity and on the any high level language.
The Flowcharts allows to programmers simply understand the logic of the complex problems and explain their solution to other people.

Flowcharts are visual diagrams or maps of a process. A good flowchart provides a step-by-step description of the process using standardized symbols connected by lines and arrows that illustrate the relationships between steps. Flowcharts aren’t just for computer programmers. They are useful tools for managing business operations, ranging from accounting procedures and manufacturing systems to supply and delivery processes. Creating accurate flowcharts can be a lot of work, but the benefits make it worth the time and energy.

Communication and Training

Flowcharts improve communication. For example, when a change is made in a manufacturing process, an updated flowchart allows everyone affected to easily see the change and how it fits into the overall production system. For training purposes, flowcharts enable new employees to more easily understand how each step moves an entire process forward to completion.

Documentation and Compliance

An important benefit of flowcharts is that they provide documentation of a process. This is useful when problems arise because flow charts let you trace the process from one step to the next. This lets you easily identify when the problem took place. The flowchart also provides guidance for managers overseeing operations and helps ensure compliance with policy and regulations. For example, managers can reference a flowchart of accounting procedures to verify that bookkeeping activities are being conducted according to generally accepted accounting principles.

The flowcharts' importance lies in the fact it is a tool and the importance of any tool is to help perform a job. Creating a flowchart can help develop a more comprehensive understanding of how information, data, and ideas flow together. It can also simplify these same components into an easy to understand representation of a complicated structure.

A flow chart, or flow diagram, is a graphical representation of a process or system that details the sequencing of steps required to create output. A typical flow chart uses a set of basic symbols to represent various functions, and shows the sequence and interconnection of functions with lines and arrows. Flow charts can be used to document virtually any type of business system, from the movement of materials through machinery in a manufacturing operation to the flow of applicant information through the hiring process in a human resources department.

Each flow chart is concerned with one particular process or system. It begins with the input of data or materials into the system and traces all the procedures needed to convert the input into its final output form. Specialized flow chart symbols show the processes that take place, the actions that are performed in each step, and the relationship between various steps. Flow charts may include different levels of detail as needed, from a high-level overview of an entire system to a detailed diagram of one component process within a larger system. In any case, the flow chart shows the overall structure of the process or system, traces the flow of information and work through it, and highlights key processing and decision points.

Flow charts are an important tool for the improvement of processes. By providing a graphical representation, they help project teams to identify the different elements of a process and understand the interrelationships among the various steps. Flow charts may also be used to gather information and data about a process as an aid to decision making or performance evaluation. For example, the owner of a small advertising agency who hopes to reduce the time involved in creating a print ad might be able to use a flow chart of the process to identify and eliminate unnecessary steps. Though flow charts are relatively old design tools, they remain popular among computer programmers working on systems analysis and design. In recent years, many software programs have been developed to assist business people in creating flow charts.

CONSTRUCTING FLOW CHARTS
Flow charts typically utilize specialized symbols. Some of the main symbols that are used to construct flow charts include:

A round-edged rectangle to represent starting and ending activities, which are sometimes referred to as terminal activities.
A rectangle to represent an activity or step. Each step or activity within a process is indicated by a single rectangle, which is known as an activity or process symbol.
A diamond to signify a decision point. The question to be answered or decision to be made is written inside the diamond, which is known as a decision symbol. The answer determines the path that will be taken as a next step.
Flow lines show the progression or transition from one step to another.
Constructing a flow chart involves the following main steps: 1) Define the process and identify the scope of the flow diagram; 2) Identify project team members that are to be involved in the construction of the process flow diagram; 3) Define the different steps involved in the process and the interrelationships between the different steps (all team members should help develop and agree upon the different steps for the process); 4) Finalize the diagram, involving other concerned individuals as needed and making any modifications necessary; and 5) Use the flow diagram and continuously update it as needed.

Most important use of flowcharts are to depict through images how a process is performed from start to finish, typically in sequential order. process flow diagram is often used in training to document an existing process or to evaluate the efficiency of that process
When to Use a Flowchart
To develop understanding of how a process is done.
To study a process for improvement.
To communicate to others how a process is done.
When better communication is needed between people involved with the same process.
To document a process.
When planning a project.

Flow chart shows the system
The process will be sequence
There will be no any Gap between it
Once from the first step to second step it proceed
It will not go to previous
They are very  serious meeting  will go through before the flow chart
Because there will not any changes after once it has started/processed

Human tendency always focuses on pictures, visual representation rather than documentation.
When we are building a new system, if we have the overview of the system in diagrammatic representation, it helps the teams to identify the different elements of the process and relationships within the steps.
Therefore, Flowchart is a visual representation of the system that becomes easy while developing a new workflow/system/software.

Top Benefits of Flowchart
1. Visual Clarity
One of the biggest benefits of a flowchart is the tool's ability to visualize multiple progresses and their sequence into a single document. Stakeholders throughout an organization can easily understand the workflow while finding out which step is unnecessary and which progress should be improved.

2. Instant Communication
Teams can use flowcharts to replace meetings. Simply clarifying progresses offers an easy, visual method to help team members instantly understand what they should do step by step.

3. Effective Coordination
For project managers and resource schedulers, the benefits of a flowchart include the ability to sequence events and reduce the potential for overburdening team members. Eliminating the unnecessary steps help to save time and resources.

4. Efficiency Increase
Efficiency increases are a significant benefit of flowcharts. The flowchart lists each step necessary to perform a process. The flowchart helps a designer remove unnecessary steps in a process, as well as errors. The flowchart should only include the steps that are requirements to reach the endpoint of the process.

5. Effective Analysis
With the help of flowchart, problem can be analyzed in more effective way. It specifically shows what type of action each step in a process requires. Generally, a rectangle with rounded edges defines the beginning or end of the process, a diamond shape shows the point at which a decision is required, and a square block shows an action taken during the process. A flowchart may also include symbols that show the type of media in which data is stored, such as a rectangle with a curved bottom to show a paper document or a cylinder to symbolize a computer hard drive.

6. Problem Solving
Flowcharts break a problem up into easily definable parts. The defined process displayed by the flowchart demonstrates the method of solving a complex problem. A flowchart reduces the chance that a necessary step for solving a problem will be left out because it appears obvious. In this way, it reduces cost and wastage of time.

7. Proper Documentation
Digital flowcharts serve as a good paperless documentation, which is needed for various purposes, making things more efficient.

Importance of Flow chart:

Flow chart is defined as a pictorial representation of an Algorithm (or) program.
This contains the flow of a program by which the user can understand effectively and easily.
It has a basic flow in which it contains the functionality of a product that how it should be functioned and how the software should behave in order to meet its goal.
The flow chart contains sequence of steps by which the user can understand the functionality if the software.

The below listed are some important benefits of a flowchart:
