Software Requirement Specification (SRS) document usually contains a software vendorís understanding of a customerís software requirements. This document ensures that the software vendor and the customer are in agreement as to the features required in the software system being built. SRS is created after the initial requirement elicitation phase in which Software vendor interacts with the customer to understand the software needs. Usually SRS documentation is prepared by a business analyst who has some technical background. Collect requirements from the clients . SRS documents basically support the Function documents

SRS -- System Requirement Specification:
This document is prepared based on the BRD (Business Requirement Document).
A document containing all the requirements for the development process, right from the beginning to the
release of the application, like - Software requirements, man power, resources, platform, environment, etc. Usually SRS documentation is prepared by a business analyst who has some technical background. Collect requirements from the clients .

To prepare SRS a group of professional from the organization who is responsible for this software development, visit the customer site to have a first hand look at their processes, documents, functions and requirements. SRS is prepared as detailed and explanatory as possible because this document is handed over to the development team who will be responsible for developing a good software matching customer needs and meeting customer requirements.

SRS in a way is the foundation stone for good software that has to take birth based on it. It is very important to meet the right people at customer location who are deeply involved in these processes in their respective fields. A detailed study of each process, supported by relevant documents, forms, reports need to be collected. Process owner must devote ample time to the team member who has come for business study so that he in turns documents it well as part of SRS.

Usually SRS documentation is prepared by a business analyst who has some technical background.

An SRS is written in precise, clear and plain language so that it can be reviewed by a business analyst or customer representative with minimal technical expertise. However it also contains analytical models (use case diagrams, entity relationship diagrams, data dictionary etc.) which can be used for the detailed design and the development of the software system.

SRS document is prepared by BA based on the BRD document which is either provided by the client or created by BA.
SRS document is a combination of 2 major documents:
1. FR - Functional Requirement
2. Technical Requirements

BA mainly takes care of the FRD whereas the Technical Specs are taken care by the Technical team.
